Their Story

Don and Vivian have been together for 65 years. They’ve spent their lives working hard, caring for others, and doing the best they could with what they had. But now, they are living in a home that is no longer safe, healthy, or manageable.

For the past six years, they’ve been battling a severe bedbug infestation — something they simply cannot fight on their own anymore.

In 2021, they sought help from Terminix, but the infestation returned a year later, even worse. Since then, the situation has grown into something no family should ever have to face.

I was finally able to get in touch with the Lumber River Council on Aging, and they have agreed to provide heat‑based extermination at no cost. This is a huge relief — but it’s only the first step. The home still needs extensive cleaning, repairs, and replacement of damaged items to make it safe and livable again.
